Rock a costume inspired by your favorite game character and enjoy an evening of art, games, music, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks while supporting exhibitions and programs in VGA Gallery's 2019-2020 season. Winners of the costume contest will be eligible for prizes. This year, VGA is proud to honor artist, professor and curator Jon Cates for his deep and significant contribution to video games and new media art. Admission grants you:

VGA 2019 Honoree Bio: Jon Cates teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and the Donau-Universität Krems (Austria). Since 2004, Cates is the first Full-time tenured New Media Faculty hire at SAIC, developing curriculum and teaching studio and history classes on Art Games, Indie Games, Machinima, and Computer Animation. Widely recognized for his contributions to the development of Glitch Art, since the late 1990s, Cates’ Glitch Art Games include many collaborations with Jake Elliott (of Cardboard Computer) and now most recently with Evan Meaney. His current project 鬼鎮 (Ghosttown) is a Glitch Western feature film as well as an experimental game environment. Cates is the curator of the acclaimed Chicago New Media 1973-1992 exhibition and catalog that was a featured program of Art Design Chicago and recently traveled to be officially included in the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
