Machinarium

Amanita Design’s Machinarium brought wide attention to their new approach to the point-and-click puzzle adventure for the way it brought together hand-drawn aesthetics, baffling logic puzzles, social commentary, sympathetic and adorable character design, wordless pantomime, and above all else subtlety. No single thread of the game hits the player too quickly. The slow pace of movement, play, and mechanics reflect the patience of Amanita’s stylistic choices. This print depicts the life in the streets and passages of the city of discarded mechanical objects; musicians, neighbors and the player’s nameless robot fade into a confined urban space that paradoxically seems like it could extend forever in alleys, stairs and other details. It measures 11’’ x 17’’ unframed and 12 x 18" framed.

Amanita Design was founded in 2003 by Jakub Dvorský. The group operates out of Brno, Czech Republic. They have received numerous awards and recognition for their games, including the 2009 IGF Excellence in Visual Art Award, Gamasutra’s Best Indie Game of 2009, and PC Gamer's Best Soundtrack of 2009 for Machinarium, as well as the IGF Excellence in Audio Award, Game of the Year from jayisgames.com, IndieCade: Best Story/World Design Award, and the Mac App Store Best of 2012 for Botanicula, amongst others. The group has made games for the BBC, Nike, and the Polyphonic Spree.
